Six dead in suicide blast at Rawalpindi Imambargah

According to eye witnesses, explosion was so powerful as it destroyed the surrounding shops and vehicles at the spot.

The explosion took place near an Imambargah in Chattiya Battiya, a residential neighbourhood of Rawalpindi.

Police said Mehfil-e-Milaad was under way at the Imambargah when the blast took place. More than hundred persons including women and children were present in a Milaad.

The locals started the rescue work and started shifting the injured to District Headquarter Hospital Rawalpindi.

Police later claimed that it was not a suicide attack but the bomb was planted near the place of worship.

Condemnations and Mourning

PTI chief Imran Khan, JI chief Sirajul Haq, PAT chief Tahir-ul-Qadri, MQM chief Altaf Hussain and other political leaders condemned the attack while religious organisations namely “Tahaffuz-e-Azadari Council” and “Sunni Alliance Council” have announced a 3 day mourning over the deadly attack.
