Son of the wealthy and influential Sikander Jatoi, Shahrukh Jatoi had caused an immense outcry a couple of years ago, when he had allegedly committed the murder of Shahzeb Khan, after an altercation. According to local reports, Jatoi is being provided with amenities and facilities in Karachi’s central jail.
It was stated that Shahrukh Jatoi was being taken care of by the police guards stationed inside the police station and the death row inmate was leading a comfortable life. An indoor gaming setup, access to television, air-conditioner and other such utilities were bring provided to the alleged criminal, which is illegal. A video was also shown in a private current affairs show, in which Shahrukh was seen to be enjoying such luxuries.
IG Prisons Nusrat Mangan refused to comment on the video, stating that he couldn’t share his thoughts on the subject due to the fact that he had not seen the video for himself nor confirm the veracity of the video footage. However, he did promise to probe the matter and that if the allegations would prove true, he would rectify them and take to task those involved among the jail administration.
Shahzeb Khan’s case earned the public’s ire when in December 2012, he was allegedly shot dead by Shahrukh Jatoi near the Country Club apartments in Karachi. Then-Chief Justice Iftikhar Muhammad Chaudhry had taken a suo moto notice of the incident and Shahrukh Jatoi, who had escaped to Dubai, was brought back to the country and tried for the murder of Shahzeb.
Among those who were said to be accomplices in the murder of Shahzeb Khan, were Siraj Talpur, Sajjad Talpur and Ghulam Murtaza Lashari.
