What could possibly be the reason for Madhuri Dixit and Sharmeen Obaid to converge at a simple place? If you’re thinking it’s related to a film project, you’re wrong. The two artists were present in the Indian capital at the Women of the World event, where successful women are given a chance to speak and narrate their struggles and ordeals.

Madhuri Dixit stated that she was quite happy to see more and more women being inducted into the Indian film industry. Known for her graceful looks and complex dance moves back in the day, Madhuri said that she was overjoyed to see that women were now going behind the cameras as well. “Everybody else was a man. Now when I go to a set, there are women in every department — be it make-up, camera, script writing, assistant direction… I look around and see women everywhere and that’s what gives me hope (for the country’s womenfolk),” she said. “We need to keep talking about issues, because change doesn’t happen overnight… I am hopeful that tomorrow there will be a change,” added the actress.” Sharmeen Obaid also got the chance to meet with another fellow Pakistani woman who was invited to the event; Sherry Rehman.

Sharmeen Obaid’s A Girl in the River: The Price of Forgiveness has been shortlisted for the Best Documentary-Short Subject category.
