In a petition in Sindh High Court the family of Dr. Asim Hussain, Chairman of the Higher Education Commission (HEC), pleaded that the detainee has been a patient of sugar and blood pressure and requested the court to issue orders for his transfer to a hospital.

The Rangers officials told the SHC judges that Dr Asim has been provided necessary medical care in custody.

During a hearing of the petition in the SHC Rangers official claimed that Dr Asim Hussain was physically fit. The court was informed that the detainee is being interrogated for severe offences and pleaded the court to dismiss the plea.

The bench after hearing the two sides dismissed the petition filed by Dr Asim’s wife Dr Zareen Hussain.

The court directed the petitioner to submit a separate petition if she wants to challenge the arrest of Dr. Asim.

An anti-terrorism court (ATC) in Karachi had granted 90-day custody of Dr. Asim to paramilitary Rangers, a day after he was picked up by plain-clothed security men from HEC office in Karachi.
