Sindh forms new JIT to probe Saulat’s disclosures

KARACHI: The Sindh government Thursday constituted a new Joint Investigation Team to conduct probe from death row convict Saulat Mirza, ARY News reported.

The team will be headed by DIG Traffic Ameer Sheikh, while other members of the JIT will consist of intelligence officials.

The JIT will hold fresh investigation from Mirza in view of his startling confessions against MQM.

Mirza’s execution was postponed at eleventh hour on March 19 for three days on presidential orders after his video statement in which he made shocking revelations and confessions about target killing and allegations on leaders of MQM. Later his hanging was again put off for 30 days on recommendation of the Prime Minister to the President.

Mirza was sentenced to death by an anti-terrorism court in May 1999 for murdering the managing director of then Karachi Electric Supply Corporation Shahid Hamid, his driver Ashraf Brohi and guard Khan Akbar in July 1997.
