KARACHI: Several Mobile Hospitals which were supposed to be used to provide healthcare facilities to deprived areas of Sindh are gathering dust at a vacant plot in Block 2 Clifton.

The state of the art vans were provided by Sindh government for the ‘Free Mobile Thar Hospital Service’ but have not been delivered and still remain unutilised.

The project is an initiative of the Special Initiatives Department, Ministry of Health. The vans have portraits of Benazir Bhutto, and has the ‘Sindh Sanwariyo, Sindh Sudhariyo (Let’s come to develop Sindh)’ slogan inscribed on them.

Ironically health officials had shown no knowledge of the mobile hospitals in a meeting convened by Chief Minister Murad Ali Shah on 7th October at the Ministry of Health where he had reiterated that priority is being given to health and had directed the officials to revamp the department.

Many health expert said that the project of mobile hospital has failed. The mobile hospitals are reportedly cleaned daily but they are not being sent to any part of the province.

The mobile hospitals which cost million’s of taxpayers funds have the facilities of an operation theater, laboratory and also a medical store.

This had raised an indelible question mark to implement the initiatives and over the Sindh government claim that it has declared an health and education emergency in the province.
