Siraj backs PTI for Senate's deputy chairman seat

HARIPUR: The emir of Jamaat e Islami (JI), Sirajul Haq Tuesday suggested giving the post of deputy chairman of Senate to Pakistan Tehreek-i-Insaf (PTI), ARY News reported.

Sirajul Haq said that his party welcomes the nomination of Senator Raza Rabbani as the chairman of the upper house. He told that it was Jamaat e Islami which suggested electing Rabbani unopposed as the chairman.

However, the opposition parties had yesterday decided to elect the deputy chairman of Senate from Baluchistan.

Earlier, Prime Minister, Nawaz Sharif had endorsed the decision of opposition parties to field Raza Rabbani as consensus candidate for the office of Chairman Senate.

He said that his party backed Rabbani to promote the culture of consensus.
