MUMBAI: Former Indian cricketer Sourav Ganguly has been accused of ‘evading transparency’ in the distribution of complimentary tickets for the India-England One-day International played at the Eden Gardens on January 22.

Former Cricket Association of Bengal (CAB) treasurer Biswarup Dey, who had to step down from CAB having completed nine years in office, alleged the former India skipper and Gautam Dasgupta, the association’s trustee board chairman, and his team had “unethically” denied him the “allotted quota of complimentary tickets.”

However, Ganguly refuted the allegations. “He always takes about 200 to 300 tickets from me, so his allegations are baseless. I don’t want to comment further,” Ganguly said.

Dey cited the Justice RM Lodha committee report’s emphasis on transparency in cricket administration in a letter to Ganguly, adding: “In my case, the transparency of distribution of tickets is a question to CAB… I request you to kindly intervene in the matter and resolve the issue.”

Dey argued that CAB could have allotted him tickets as a former joint secretary or a member of a CAB-affiliated unit, although his tenure had come to an end. He said if he did not get a reply with valid reasons within a week, he would complain to the Board.

He said the Lodha panel’s tenure restrictions didn’t seem to apply to former BCCI joint secretary Dasgupta, who is the chairman of the Board of Trustees. “He’s well past 70 and has had nine years in tenure… How come he’s still continuing?” he asked.
