The decision to rename the stadium was taken after Sammy led West Indies to their second World Twenty20 win.
A stand in the stadium has also been dedicated to Johnson Charles who also hails from St. Lucia.
West Indies beat England by four wickets to clinch the 2016 World T20 in India.
