Summary for extension in Rangers powers’ awaits CM’s approval

KARACHI: Chief Minister Sindh Syed Qaim Ali Shah is yet to approve a summary for sanctioning ‘special powers’ to Pakistan Rangers in Karachi, ARY News reported.

The summary for extension in Rangers powers is awaiting CM’s approval for 11 days. Summary forwarded by the Interior Ministry seeks extension in powers for another four months. The ‘special powers’ granted to the paramilitary force ended on December 5.

Rangers were given special powers under section-9 of the Anti Terrorism Act, allowing the force to raid, arrest and detain suspects.

In August the CM had extended the period of “special powers” of Rangers in Karachi for another four months.
