Supreme Court to hear Karsaz attack case today

The apex court five-member larger bench hearing case about a terrorist attack on former prime minister Benazir Bhutto on her welcome procession in Karachi’s Karsaz area on October 18, 2007.

The bench headed by Chief Justice Anwar Zaheer Jamali also included Justice Saqib Nisar, Justice Ijaz Afzal Khan, Justice Musheer Alam and Justice Manzoor Ahmed Malik.

A larger bench of the Supreme Court headed by than chief justice Iftikhar Chaudhry had summoned report on the case from Sindh Police department on November 1st, 2007.

Incumbent Chief Justice Anwar Zaheer Jamali took suo moto notice of the incident and ordered hearing of the Karsaz attack case.

The welcome procession of People’s Party leader Benazir Bhutto was marching on Shara-e-Faisal towards the mausoleum of Quaid-e-Azam when it was attacked at Karsaz area.

The twin suicide bomb attack left 180 workers of Pakistan People’s Party killed, while scores of others were injured in the carnage.

Benazir Bhutto survived the attack but assassinated in a gun and bomb attack same year when she was leaving after addressing an election rally in Rawalpindi on December 27, 2007.

Former interior minister Rehman Malik will record his testimony in Benazir Bhutto murder case in the court today.

FIA officials had requested the special court for testimony of the former interior minister in the Benazir Bhutto murder case.

Judge Ayub Marath had granted the request and ordered Malik to record his statement before the court in the case today.
