Tharparkar toll reaches 230 after four more deaths

MITHI: Four more children perished due to starvation in the drought-stricken Tharparkar on Sunday, taking the death toll to 227, ARY News reported.

The infant children were under treatment at a hospital in Mithi. The death toll has reached 227 in last couple of months.

At least 51 children are still admitted at a Civil Hospital Mithi.

The Thar desert, straddling the Indian border and one of Pakistan’s poorest areas, has seen an alarming number of children suffering pneumonia or diarrhoea due to a dangerous mix of drought, poverty and poor health infrastructure.

The PPP-led Sindh government is often criticized for failing to take necessary measures to contain deaths in the desert region, despite numerous promises.
