ISLAMABAD: President of Awami Muslim League (AML) Sheikh Rasheed Ahmed has said that those plundering the national wealth will definitely meet their end, ARY News reported.

Speaking to media outside Supreme Court of Pakistan on Wednesday, Rasheed claimed that the government has lost the Panamagate Case in the people’s court.

“It has been proven in the people’s court that the rulers smuggled the national wealth out of the country,” Rasheed said.

He said that new issues are arising each day in the Panamagate Case.

Sheikh Rasheed, a petitioner in the Panamagate Case, said that the matter is being heard in the Supreme Court and expressed hope to get justice. He said that Sharif brothers will meet their end.

“All those who smuggled the wealth outside of the country will meet their fate,” he added.

The Panamagate Case

The names of several Pakistanis including Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif’s children Maryam, Hussain, and Hasan surfaced in one of the world’s biggest ever data leaks through an online searchable database made public by the International Consortium of Investigative Journalists (ICIJ) in April 2016, following which the prime minister had formed an inquiry commission to probe his family’s alleged links to offshore accounts.

Unfortunately, the federal government and the opposition could not agree on drafting joint Terms of References (ToRs).

The Public Accounts Committee (PAC), Federal Board of Revenue (FBR), State Bank of Pakistan (SBP), Securities and Exchange Commission of Pakistan (SECP) and National Accountability Bureau (NAB) also failed to probe the high-profile matter.

The PTI to press for its demand of inquiry into the matter had announced to hold a sit-in in Islamabad on November 2. The decision was later changed into a ‘celebratory’ rally, after the Supreme Court took up the case.
