The gunmen opened fire at a single cabin vehicle at Patang Chowk on ring road leaving two FC personnel dead and another injured, SSP Operations Abbas Majeed Marwat told media.

SSP said that the FC vehicle was approaching Patang Chowk from Ring Road when the assailants fired, killing two law enforcement personnel on the spot. A third succumbed to injuries at Lady Reading Hospital of Peshawar.

Policemen cordoned off the area after the terrorist attack and launched a search operation, however no immediate arrests were made.

A 9mm pistol was used in the attack, preliminary police investigations suggest.

No one immediately claimed responsibility for the attack. But Pakistani Taliban regularly target military and civilian installations and security personnel as part of an insurgency which has claimed tens of thousands of lives.

Peshawar is the gateway to the restive tribal areas where the military has been battling Taliban and Al-Qaeda-linked militants for over a decade.
