Three Taliban militants gunned down in Karachi encounter

KARACHI: Police gunned down three Tehreek-e-Taliban Pakistan (TTP) militants in an encounter whereas 37 suspected criminals were arrested in raids across Karachi, ARY News reported on Friday.

An exchange of fire took place between the law enforcement agencies and the terrorists within the jurisdiction of Sachal Police Station in which three militants were shot dead.

SSP Malir Rao Anwar said that two of the slain terrorists, that were affiliated with Tehreek-e-Taliban Pakistan Swati Group, were identified as Iqbal and Shah Mohammad. He also said that Kalashnikovs, hand grenades and explosive materials were seized from the militants.

On the other hand, two Lyari gangsters named Haider Dada and Abdullah were arrested in a raids carried out Singoo Lane and Rangiwara area of Lyari. Weapons and drugs were recovered from the arrested gangsters.

Police said that the arrested men were wanted in different criminal cases including extortion and targeted killings. Haider Dada had recently reached Karachi from Iran, police said.

Moreover, 35 suspects were taken into custody in police operations in Liaquatabad, Azizabad and New Karachi areas.

A suspected gangster of Lyari was arrested in wounded condition as he tried to evade arrest during a police raid at his hideout in PIB Colony.

Police said that the suspect, identified as Shahzaib alias Cheetah, jumped from a four-storey building to avoid arrest and was seriously injured in his bid to escape.

Shahzaib is said to be involved in scores of criminal cases of murder and attempt to murder.
