Tired of government inaction, Karachi residents organize relief on their own

KARACHI: Tired of government inaction and lethargy, and with the death toll caused by the blistering heatwave rising to 710, some Karachi residents took matter into their own hands.

They contacted the head of the Emergency Ward at the Jinnah Postgraduate Medical Centre Dr Seemin Jamali who told them that water bottles and blankets were needed to cope with the large number of patients seeking treatment for suffering a heatstroke.

They launched a campaign on social media and within a few hours had managed to deliver several hundred water bottles to the hospital, an example of what private and individual initiative can do.
