Turkish President Erdogan arrives in Pakistan
ISLAMABAD: Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan has arrived in Pakistan on Wednesdayon a two-day state visit on the invitation of President Mamnoon Hussain.
Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif, Kalsoom Nawaz and Maryam Nawaz warmly welcomed the Turkish President and first lady at Nur Khan Airbase Rawalpindi.
Two children attired in cultural dress of Pakistan presented bouquet to the visiting dignitary.
Federal Ministers, Chief Minister Punjab, diplomats and high officials were also present on the occasion.
A high-level entourage including Ministers, senior officials and a large number of business community members are accompanying the Turkish president.
The Turkish President is also scheduled to address the Joint Session of Parliament on Thursday.
President Erdogan will also travel to Lahore, where the Prime Minister will host a banquet in the honour of visiting dignity at Shahi Fort.
This is Erdogan’s fourth state visit to Pakistan. His first visit was on 21 May 2012 when he was the Turkish prime minister, and second on 17 September 2013. He made his first state visit as the Turkish president on 1 August 2015.
The Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) led by by Imran Khan has decided not to attend the joint session of arliament to be addressed by the visiting Turkish President.
Before departing for Islamabad, Erdogan held a press conference in Ankarra and said:
“We will discuss new cooperation opportunities with Pakistan in the areas of trade, economy, defense industry, energy, security and infrastructure investments. I believe my visit will be productive in terms of consultations on regional matters and further strengthening the deep-rooted relations between our two countries.”
He stated that he will meet with President Mamnoon Hussain and Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif of Pakistan during his visit, President Erdoğan said he will also address a joint session of the National Assembly and Senate of Pakistan which stood in solidarity with Turkey in the wake of the July 15 coup attempt.
Erdogan and Sharif will also attend a roundtable meeting with executives of leading Turkish and Pakistani companies.
“We will discuss new cooperation opportunities with Pakistan in the areas of trade, economy, defense industry, energy, security and infrastructure investments. I believe my visit will be productive in terms of consultations on regional matters and further strengthening the deep-rooted relations between our two countries. Because, we value Pakistan’s security, peace and stability as highly as our security and stability. We will continue to contribute to Pakistan, which is going through hard times, as required by our history and brotherhood.”
