Malik tweeted, “So proud of her…high level of discpline, focus and big dreams that atheles are made of.”

For Mirza, it was a maiden women’s doubles title at a Grand Slam although she has won three mixed doubles at the majors.

It was interesting to note that Sania Mirza didn’t respond to Malik’s tweet, however she retweeted the wishes of Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Indian President Pranab Mukherjee.

Did she really ignore Malik’s tweet congratulating his wife? Only Mirza can answer.

Meanwhile, the tennis star praised the support she and Hingis received throughout the tournament and hoped her win will have a positive impact back home in cricket-mad India.

“I hope it inspires a lot of girls and makes them believe they can be Grand Slam champions too,” she said.
