Two held as police foil attack on varsity in Bahawalpur

BAHAWALPUR: The Counter-Terrorism Department (CTD) and Punjab Police in a joint raid apprehended two suspected terrorists here on Friday who were busy orchestrating an attack on Islamia University Bahawalpur (IUB), ARY News reported.

The law enforcers recovered rocket-propelled grenades and explosives hidden in bushes at a few distance from university campus, upon identification by arrested suspects.

Officials called in Bomb Disposal Squad (BDS) members, who cleared the area after thorough search.

Sources said that the terrorists wanted to wage an attack on the varsity.

Over 20,000 students are enrolled at the university, while the campus houses nearly 8000 male and female students, and faculty members.
