Two killed after heavy rain lashes Lahore on Thursday

At least two children including a teenage girl were killed in varying rain-related incident in the city.

In Manawan, a two-year-old Fatima died, her mother and brother wounded after the roof of their house collapsed. In a separate incident, a nine-year-old girl was electrocuted in Sabzazaar area.

Early morning downpour today submerged most of the low-lying and even posh areas of the city under rainwater, tearing down traffic and electricity systems across Lahore.

After days of scorching heat in which people of Lahore had to swelter, many welcomed the latest spell of rain on Thursday.

However, their gladness was later ruined, as people could not reach their destinations particularly workplaces after they found most of the roads in the city inundated in rainwater.

A massive power breakdown in the city following the rain was also witnessed after approximately 150 feeders tripped.

Met Office officials said that the latest rain spell would continue in Lahore and adjoining areas in the next 24 hours.
