Two suspects of Nanga Parbat incident escape from Gilgit District Jail

GILGIT: Two accused of Nanga Parbat incident managed to escape from Gilgit District Jail on Friday night, ARY News reported.

According to police four inmates at around 2:00 AM made an attempt to escape from jail among them one was gunned down while another injured by police guard during jailbreak.

The prisoners created unrest inside the jail after the incident due to which the police opened aerial fire and resorted to tear gas shelling.

An investigation committee comprises of Chief Secretary Gilgit Baltistan, Home Secretary Gilgit Baltistan, DIG headquarters and officers of intelligence agencies have been formed to probe the incident of jailbreak.

Furthermore, Gilgit Baltistan Home Secretary Sibtain Ahmed has announced reward of Rs. 2 million for arrest of escaped prisoners.

All jail staff of Gilgit District including jail superintendent was suspended for the negligence.

The two escaped prisoners were involved in 2012 deadly attack that killed 12 tourists at a mountain camp near Nanga Parbat, said Police.
