RAWALPINDI: Chief of General Staff (CGS) UK, Army General Sir Nicholas Patrick Carter, called on Chief of Army Staff General Raheel Sharif at the General Headquarters today.
During the meeting, they discussed regional security issues and matters of mutual interest.
Gen Carter acknowledged the sacrifices and achievements of Pakistan Army in fight against terrorism and efforts for bringing peace and stability in the region.
The army launched the “Zarb-e-Azb” operation in June 2014 in a bid to wipe out militant bases in North Waziristan tribal area and so bring an end to the bloody insurgency that has cost thousands of civilian lives.
Security in the country has since improve. Scattered attacks still take place, but they are fewer and of a lesser intensity than in previous years.
Earlier on arrival at GHQ, CGS UK Army, laid floral wreath at Yadgar-e-Shuhada. A smartly turned out contingent of Pakistan Army presented the guard of honour to the visiting dignitary.
Visit to North Waziristan
General Sir Nicholas Patrick Carter visited Miranshah, North Waziristan where he was briefed about the return and rehabilitation of internally displaced persons. He was impressed with the progress of Operation Zarb-e-Azb and the dismantled terror network.
