US Af-Pak envoy discuss regional security with Raheel Sharif

RAWALPINDI: United States Special Representative for Afghanistan and Pakistan Richard Olson called on Army Chief General Raheel Sharif at General Headquarters’ in Rawalpindi on Monday, ARY News reported.

The US special envoy discussed with General Sharif overall security situation of the region with reference to the situation in Afghanistan during the meeting.

This was Ambassador Olson’s first visit to General Headquarters after assumption of office of US Special Representative for Afghanistan and Pakistan last month.

General Raheel Sharif in his mid-November visit to the United States discussed security and defence matters and the issues related to the Afghan peace process with the US government officials.

The army chief in his meetings with the US leadership had highlighted achievements of the ongoing Operation Zarb-e-Azb, Pak-Afghan border situation and negotiations with Afghan Taliban leadership.

General Raheel Sharif met US Vice President Joe Biden, Secretary of State John Kerry, Defence Secretary Ashton Carter, Chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff Gen. Joseph Dunford, Army Chief of Staff Gen. Mark Milley and Director CIA John Brennan during his visit.
