US commander urges govt to review ties with Pakistan

KABUL: Commander of United States and international troops in Afghanistan General John W. Nicholson Jr. has advised his government to review bilateral ties with Pakistan, ARY News reported on Friday.

Briefing the Senate’s Armed Services Committee, said that bilateral ties between the United States and Pakistan need to be thoroughly reviewed.

He also termed Pak-US ties “complicated”.

The US commander also said that he met Defence Secretary James Mattis and discussed the country’s ties with Pakistan in detail.

Political experts in the United States have said that General Nicolson’s statements hint that Trump administration may adopt tough policy towards Pakistan.

They said that such policies are dangerous it creates unrest and instability in the region.

It should be noted that a high-level White House official had earlier hinted that Pakistan may be added to the list of countries being denied United States visas.
