Varsity campus among six educational institutes sealed in south Punjab

BAHAWALPUR/MULTAN: Authorities on Wednesday sealed six educational institutes including a university campus in southern Punjab citing inadequate security, ARY News reported.

According to details, police sealed Islamia University Bahawalpur (IUB) Railway campus and Government Post-Graduate College in Bahawalpur over poor security arrangements.

The DSP City told media that the step was taken in view of looming security threats, however if the management takes due security measures then the institutes will be reopened after checking.

Meanwhile, officials sealed four more educational institutes in Layyah, on same grounds.

Law enforcement agencies (LEAs) also conducted a search operation at Bahauddin Zakariya University (BZU) Multan on Wednesday evening.

Earlier, all military-run schools were closed in Karachi till January 31 citing security concerns.

The administration of Karachi University (KU) in a meeting held today decided to take measures to ensure safety of students and staff.

Sources said the meeting presided by Vice Chancellor Dr Muhammad Qaisar decided to raise the boundary walls of the varsity and to construct eight search towers around it, and to prevent vehicles without entrance passes from entering into university.

Earlier to this, security was put on high alert at KU following which police, Rangers and bomb disposal squad (BDS) personnel completely searched out all nurseries and canteens in and around the campus.

Campus security officer, Dr Zubair told that the security personnel declared all parts of the campus clear.
