Veteran ANP leader Haji Adeel passes away

PESHAWAR: Senior leader of the Awami National Party (ANP), Haji Adeel, passed away on Friday morning. He was 72.

His family sources informed that Mr. Adeel has been suffering from kidney-related complications for some time.

His funeral prayers were offered at Jinnah Park in Peshawar, which was attended by Governor Khyber Paktunkhwa Iqbal Zafar Jhagra, parliamentarians other political personalities along with a large number of people. ANP leaders Ghulam Ahmed Bilour and Shahi Syed were also present.

Haji Adeel was a veteran politician and a senior ANP representative appearing in several TV talk shows over the years to give his party’s view on different political issues.

He also served as a Senator from March 2009 to March 2015. He held several key posts during his political career including Parliamentary Leader in Senate of Pakistan, senior Vice President ANP, chairman Election Commission of ANP, coordinator ANP Lawyers, member Central & Provincial Executive Committees of ANP, member, National Executive Committee, Pakistan India People’s Forum for Peace and Democracy.

He had served as Finance Minister in NWFP (now Khyber Pakhtunkhwa) in 1993. He also held KP Assembly seat in 1990, 1993, and 1997.
