Waitress attacked for serving alcohol during Ramazan
After the incident, the waitress in a cafe in central Nice filed a police complaint after she was allegedly assaulted because she refused to “stop serving alcohol”.
According to the Independent, the waitress is a Muslim of Tunisian origin.
One of the two men, who were also Muslim, insulted her before slapping her across the face, The Times reported.
She said: ‘One of the men said to me in Arabic: “You should be ashamed of yourself for serving alcohol during Ramadan if I was God I would hang you”.
She said she replied ‘You’re not God and you cannot judge me.’
Later she added: ‘I didn’t think that in France, the country of liberty, you could be attacked for that.’
“I was so scared,” she said.
“I couldn’t understand. Why have they insulted me? Why that slap? I felt belittled, humiliated, dirty. I do not want other women to be victims of such aggression.
“It’s not because I serve alcohol that I do not fulfill my duty. I do it because I’m a waitress. In Tunisia I was practicing the same profession and I never had any problems.
The waitress was left with a black eye, but although police have identified the men, they are yet to locate them.
