India witnessed a brutal case of female subjugation when a woman from Bokaro was subjected to intense beating before being tonsured and forced to drink urine mixed with excreta. All this for supporting a man who was branded by her villagers as a witch doctor.

According to details, the incident took place on Friday  at Kalyanpur under Dhadkidih panchayat. In a First Information Report (FIR) filed with Jaridih police, the woman named four accused as being responsible for the incident. Bhim Manjhi (30), Gopichand Manjhi (28), Maheshwar Manjhi (40) and Surendra Manjhi (30). As per details contained in the FIR, Gopichand, Bhim and Maheshwar came to the house of the victim around 8 pm on Friday and started knocking on the door. The woman was forced to open the door as they threatened to break it if she didn’t.

“They threatened to break open the door if she didn’t open. As soon as she did, they dragged her out in front of her husband. When the 40-year-old man tried to resist, he was thrashed,” claimed a police official.

The 35 year-old woman was taken to a community hall where she was stripped and beaten up in front of village elders. Her head was shaved and she was accused of having illegitimate relations with an ‘ojha’ and of being a woman of deplorable character. Maheshwar then mixed urine and excreta in a bottle and shoved it down her throat.

Police said they were busy looking for the accused and had launched a manhunt for their arrest.
