The Second Floor’s Sabeen Mahmud shot dead in Karachi

KARACHI: The director of a non-government organisation, The Second Floor (T2F), was shot dead by unknown assailants in Karachi’s posh area, ARY News reported Friday.

The incident took place in Defence phase-II area where armed miscreants waylaid a woman and opened fire on her. Another lady accompanying her was also injured in the firing.

The deceased woman is identified as Sabeen Mahmud. She was a director of The Second Floor (T2F).

According to SSP South, Ms Mahmud had been receiving death threats .Police said she was returning from a seminar when assailants attacked her.


What is T2F?

According to T2F website (www.t2f.biz), T2F (formerly The Second Floor) is the first project of PeaceNiche. A community space for open dialogue, T2F provides citizens with a platform for social change through rich cultural activities, public discourse, and advocacy using progressive ideas and the new media.


She was in her late 30s and studied from Karachi Grammar School.

While another woman injured in the firing is said to be victim’s mother. She was moved to National Medical Centre for treatment. Police have begun further investigation. Inquiry ordered Chief Minister Sindh Syed Qaim Ali Shah has ordered provincial police to arrest killers of Sabeen Mahmud at the earliest. Condolences pour in
