Women’s World T20: Schutt powers Australia to win over Ireland

DELHI: Three wickets by Megan Schutt and a 43-run knock by Elyse Villani helped Australia beat Ireland by seven wickets in their Group A match of the Women’s World Twenty20 at Delhi, ARY News reported.

Australia won the toss and invited Ireland to take guard. The Irish side scored 91/7 in their 20 overs with three batswomen scoring in double figures.

Kim Garth scored 27 runs from 46 deliveries while Cecelia Joyce hit 23 runs from 31 balls with the help of three boundaries.

Clare Shillington managed to scored 22 runs from 19 balls with three fours and a six to her name.

Megan Schutt took three wickets for Australia while Renee Farrell grabbed two wickets.

Australia, chasing 92 runs to win, reached the target in 13.2 overs with seven wickets to spare.

Elyse Villani made 43 runs from 35 balls with six boundaries to her name while Ellyse Perry hit 29 runs from 30 balls with the help of three fours.

Kim Garth took three wickets for Ireland while Ciara Metcalfe grabbed one wicket.

Megan Schutt was named the Player of the match for her performance with the ball.
