Women’s World T20: Sri Lanka edge past South Africa by 10 runs

BANGALORE: Sri Lanka beat South Africa by 10 runs in their Group A match of the Women’s World Twenty20 at Bangalore on Monday, ARY News reported.

Sri Lanka won the toss and chose to bat first.

Batting first, the Lankan side scored 114/7 in their 20 overs with Chamari Jayangani scoring a half century. She made 52 runs from 49 balls with five boundaries and a six to her name.

Prasadani Weerakkody and Eshani Lokusuriyage made 15 and 12 runs respectively for the Sri Lankan side.

Marizanne Kapp and Suné Luus took two wickets for South Africa while Shabnim Ismail and Marcia Letsoalo dismissed one batswoman each.

Chasing 115 runs to win from 20 overs, South Africa scored 104 runs with Trisha Chetty being the top scorer with 26 runs from 25 balls with three boundaries to her name.

Dane van Niekerk contributed 24 runs from 31 balls with the help of two fours and a six while Marizanne Kapp, Lizelle Lee and Chlor Tryone made 14, 12 and 11 runs respectively for the Proteas.

Sugandika Kumari and Udeshika Prabodhani grabbed two wickets for the island-nation while Chamari Atapattu and Eshani Lokusuriyage dismissed one South African batswoman each as well.
