Worker's killing: MQM to observe 'day of mourning'

KARACHI: Muttahida Qaumi Movement (MQM) in the wake of its worker’s killing has announced to observe a Day of Mourning on Sunday [tomorrow], ARY News reported.

MQM Raabita Committee in a release issued on Saturday evening announced to observe the Day of Mourning on Sunday and appealed the people to keep transport and businesses closed.

Earlier today an activist of MQM, Faraz Alam was ‘extra-judicially’ killed under the custody of Khokhrapar police station, while police on the other hand denied the allegations and said that Faraz died of a heart attack.

MQM leader, Haider Abbas Rizvi also held a press conference together with deceased Faraz’s uncle. He condemned the incident in strongest of words and showed evidences of police demanding bribe from victim’s family.

Rizvi named the police officials whom he alleged of demanding Rs 1 million to end the case against the deceased and later Rs 10,000 for not asking the court to grant remand of the accused.

On this occasion, Faraz Alam’s uncle burst into tears while informing media about the brutal torture on his nephew by the police.
