The decision was jointly taken by BCCI and the Maharashtra government who feared that Hindu right-wing parties such as Shiv Sena might disturb the law and order situation across the state.

Maharashtra’s two stadiums Nagpur and Mumbai are amongst the eight venues to host ICC World T20. Kolkata, Dharamsala, Bangalore,Chennai, Delhi and Mohali.

A BCCI spokesperson, in an interview to an Indian news agency, said that the government of Maharashtra has advised the cricketing board to not stage the Pakistani games in the state as several parties might harm the law and order situation.

The party had opposed Pakistani hockey and kabbadi players’ participation in the matches that were to be held in the state.

The International Cricket Council (ICC) has not made the final draw for the Twenty20 World Cup 2016 in India as yet.

The spokesman also said that BCCI will ensure that such a draw is been made that Pakistan will not have to play any of their match in the two grounds. He added that there will be no problem in the final as it will be contested in Bengal’s Kolkata.
