12 die as speeding vehicle rams into Islamabad Toll Plaza


ISLAMABAD: At least 12 were killed and six others injured  in a traffic accident at Islamabad Toll Plaza on Monday, ARY News reported.

The passenger van was travelling to Rawalpindi from Sargodha when it rammed into the walls of Islamabad Toll Plaza.

After the collision, the gas cylinder fitted in the van exploded and the vehicle caught fire. Rescue officials rushed to the scene, after being informed, and shifted the bodies and the injured to Pakistan Institute of Medical Sciences (PIMS).

The rescue officials said that most of the passengers died of the inferno, which erupted after the accident. The sources said that over speeding was the reason behind the accident.

Six passengers, including four men, a woman and ad child  were shifted to burn center, said the hospital sources and added that they were in critical condition as they suffered more than 90 per cent burns.

12 passengers, including eight men, two women and two children were killed in the accident, they added.

Earlier, at least 15 passengers had been burnt to death, when a passenger coach caught fire after smashing into a wagon at the Indus Highway in Karak on February.

The dreadful road crash had took place near Tabi Kho Stop as a DI Khan-Peshawar bound passenger coach had rammed into a wagon, coming from opposite side, resulting in death of 13 passengers on the spot.

Soon after the incident, the locals had reached the spot and moved four injured passengers to a nearby medical facility, but two of them had succumbed to their injuries, raising the death toll to 15.
