KARACHI: Mayor Karachi Waseem Akhtar has filed a petition to include former president Pervez Musharraf, then prime minister Shaukat Aziz and chief minister of Sindh Arbab Ghulam Raheem in the investigation of the May 12th violence in Karachi, ARY News reported.

Four cases regarding 12th May, 2007 violent incidents in Karachi were heard in an Anti Terrorism Court (ATC) on Monday.

Akhtar said that Musharraf and other top functionaries of then government are also responsible for the violence. He pleaded to the court to include them in the probe as well.

The plea said that the officials were present in the meetings, in which the security plans for the visit of the ex-chief justice Iftikhar Muhammad Chaudhry were being hammered out.

“I have been released on bail in three other cases. I plead to the court to grant me bail in this case also,” Akhtar said.

The prosecution, in its arguments, said that violence erupted in Karachi on the incitement of the existing Karachi mayor and they have the statement of an eye-witness Ilyas in this regard.

The court, after listening to the arguments of defence and prosecution, reserved its verdict over the petition of the mayor.
