Farhan Akhtar and his wife were considered as one of Bollywood’s most loved couples who were photographed together in public quite a lot. Indian media started running reports that the couple had split, until Farhan and Adhuna issued an official statement yesterday, confirming the split.
A leading Indian daily claimed that the couple had split because, according to them, ‘they were growing apart over the years’.
According to the official statement, the couple said though they had decided to separate, their children would remain their top priority. “This is to announce that we, Adhuna and Farhan, have mutually and amicably decided to separate. Our children remain our priority and it is immensely important to us, as responsible parents, that they be protected from unwarranted speculation and public glare. We sincerely request that we are given the privacy that is required at this time to move forward in a dignified manner,” read the statement.
According to other reports from the Indian media, the tiff between the couple had been going on since a while. They had been living separately, as Farhan had started living with his sister Zoya. Following their split, the couple requested privacy.

Farhan and Adhuna have two daughters together, Shakya and Akira. They exchanged wedding vows in 2000.
