1965 war hero Azeem Daudpota passes away

KARACHI: A hero of 1965 war with India, Air Marshal (r) Azeem Daudpota passed away on Monday at the age of 84 after brief illness , ARY News reported.

According to Pakistan Air Force (PAF), the valiant soldier joined PAF on December 16, 1955 and led PAF squadron in 1965 war against India by demonstrating enormous courage.

His funeral prayers were offered at PAF Faisal Base after Zuhr prayer today.

He vigilantly stopped the hostile forces by responding befittingly to their aggression by bombarding the enemy artillery at Wagah-Attari sector near border with India.

On conspicuous courage and his leading role in 1965 war, he was awarded with Sitara-i-Jurat (Star of Courage). He was also awarded Sitara-e-Imtiaz.

During his illustrious career he also led Zimbabwe’s Air Force in 1983 where he was honoured with Zimbabwean Order of Merit medal.

Moreover, he served as Governor Sindh for short period of time, from October 1999 to May 24, 2000.
