MURREE: Lieutenant Arsalan Alam, who was martyred in a cross-border firing yesterday in Khyber Agency’s Rajgal valley, laid to rest in his native town of Gail, Murree with full military honours today, ARY News reported.
The officer was commanding a recently established border post after the Pakistan Army successfully carried out Khyber-4 operation in the valley when he came under cross-border firing. As result of the attack, the 22-year-old officer embraced martyrdom, ISPR said in a statement.
His funeral players were offered at Peshawar Garrison on Saturday, which were attended by Khyber Pakhtunkhwa (KP) Governor Iqbal Zafar Jhagra, Peshawar Corps Commander Lt General Nazir Butt, senior military officers and the deceased’s relatives.
In a message, Prime Minister Shahid Khaqan Abbasi expressed deep grief over loss of life and said that the war on terrorism is a matter of survival for country.
“The state will not rest till elimination of terrorism menace from the country,” the PM vowed.
Earlier on Aug 21, Director General of Inter-Services Public Relations (ISPR) Maj Gen Asif Ghafoor had announced the successful completion of Operation Khyber-4 in the Rajgal Valley, which lasted more than a month.
He said the army had achieved its objectives in the Rajgal and Shawal valleys.
Two soldiers of the Pakistan Army were martyred and 15 others injured during the operation which was aimed at clearing out hideout of terrorists from these areas.
