A newly released image from 28 Years Later: The Bone Temple delivers a stark and unsettling first look at Ralph Fiennes in the franchise. The image, released exclusively by ScreenRant, shows Fiennes as Dr. Ian Kelson, looking gaunt, worn, and caught in the middle of a mysterious ritual.

Kelson, now elderly after surviving the Rage Virus in post-apocalyptic Britain, appears deeply sunken-eyed and famished, giving viewers a stark hint at the horrors awaiting in the film.

Directed by Nia DaCosta, 28 Years Later: The Bone Temple builds on the world originally created by Danny Boyle and Alex Garland, but this time the franchise shifts focus. The infected are no longer the central threat. Instead, human cruelty, desperation, and moral collapse take center stage, making survival even more terrifying.

Ralph Fiennes’ character seems poised to play a major role in this new direction, forming surprising alliances that could reshape the already broken society.

The newly revealed image captures Kelson at a pivotal moment, emphasizing both his physical deterioration and the psychological toll of living in this world.

It hints at the character’s transformation, showing just how far the story is willing to push its characters. Ralph Fiennes’ portrayal promises a darker, more intense iteration of Kelson, adding gravitas to the horror on screen.

Meanwhile, the plot follows Spike, played by Alfie Williams, whose encounter with the enigmatic Jimmy Crystal (Jack O’Connell) quickly escalates into a nightmare scenario, showing that the new threats in 28 Years Later: The Bone Temple extend beyond infection.

Returning cast members include Cillian Murphy as Jim, Erin Kellyman as Jimmy Ink, and Chi Lewis-Parry as Samson, alongside Fiennes, O’Connell, and Williams. The movie was filmed right after 2025’s 28 Years Later and marks the fourth installment in the long-running series.

28 Years Later: The Bone Temple is set to hit theaters on January 16, 2026, promising fans a fresh, chilling perspective on a world where the living can be just as dangerous as the infected. Ralph Fiennes’ new look in the film already has fans buzzing, setting the stage for a tense and unpredictable chapter in the franchise.
