3.5 magnitude earthquake hits Awaran, surrounding areas

AWARAN: A 3.5 magnitude earthquake jolted Balochistan’s Awaran and adjoining areas on Monday night, ARY News reported.

The tremors were measured 3.5 at the Richter scale. People came out of their homes in panic and started reciting Kalma-e-Tayabba.

No loss of life and property was reported from any part of Awaran due to the earthquake.

According to National Seismic Monitoring Centre, Islamabad, the epicenter of the earthquake was located southwest of Awaran some 55 kilometres away at the depth of 25 kilometres.

Earlier this month, earthquake tremors were felt in Karachi.

The tremors were felt in the city’s areas including, Gulshan-e-Iqbal, Gulistan-e-Jauhar, Gulshan-e-Hadid, II Chandragar Road, Malir, Scheme 33, Saddar, Gulzar-e-Hajri, Port Qasim, Quaidabad, Khokhrapar, Malir, Lyari, Sher Shah, Kharadar, Kemari and adjoining areas.

The Richter scale recorded the earthquake at 4.1 with an epicenter near Defence Housing Authority (DHA) phase 9 and a depth of 15 Kilometers, the PMD had confirmed and added that the time of the tremors was recorded at 10:16 pm.

A devastating earthquake in Kashmir on October 08, 2005, centered near the city of Muzaffarabad, had claimed thousands of lives besides causing massive damage to infrastructure especially in Azad Kashmir and Khyber Pakhtunkhwa.
