KARACHI: Jamaat Islami (JI) staged a protest in front of K-Electric’s head office here on Friday over electricity over-billing and power load-shedding, ARY News reported.
Amir JI Karachi Hafiz Naeem-ur-Rehman was leading the protest against chronic complaints against inflated bills by the power utility in the city.
The city administration while taking precautionary measures to avoid any unpleasant incident had directed police to stay alert. The water cannon vehicles were also remained standby during the protest. However, no untoward incident took place.
Addressing the protesters and JI activists, Hafiz Naeem-ur-Rehman declared K-Electric as a mafia that has plundered 62 billion rupees of public wealth and urged the utility company to return back the public money.
Recalling the early calls of protest, he was opined that the party was barred to stage a protest on Shara-e-Faisal despite assuring city administration that the activists would not hinder smooth flow of traffic.
It should be recalled here that on March 31, the city administration had barred JI to stage a protest on Shara-e-Faisal by imposing section 144 and detaining Hafiz Naeem-ur-Rehman briefly from the party head office.
Separately, a clash between Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaaf (PTI) activists and police has been reported today during a protest over water shortage in Defence and Clifton areas of the city.

Provincial legislator and PTI leader Arif Alvi was among the protesters.
The clash took place when the party activists were barred to enter the cantonment board office. The cantonment board officials have alleged PTI activists of smashing glass doors of the office during their demonstration.

Meanwhile in a press conference today, chairman Pak Sarzameen Party (PSP) Mustafa Kamal had said that 40 percent area of the city lacks water supply pipelines and other 60 percent faces water shortage including the posh areas.
