Case against unidentified persons registered in Izharul Hassan’s assassination attempt

KARACHI: A case against unidentified armed men has been registered by Counter-Terrorism Department (CTD) in Khawaja Izharul Hassan’s assassination attempt at Taimuria Police Station here, ARY News reported on Sunday.

Sections of murder, attempt to murder, and anti-terrorism have been incorporated in the case.

According to FIR, police pursued the attackers after the incident and one of the assailants was injured in the shootout.

Citizens nabbed the injured suspect and handed over to police in critical condition who later succumbed to his injuries, FIR added.

Earlier, police had claimed to have killed him in a gun battle after chasing him.

According to Ahsan’s initial autopsy report, he was shot in the head and his body was bearing several torture marks.

Talking to Britain TV channel, Muttahida Qaumi Movement-Pakistan (MQM-P) senior leader Khawaja Izharul Hassan expressed his concerns over the incident and did not rule out the involvement of close aides in the attack.

He told that the prayer timings and place were kept under wraps and only people close to him knew about it.

Khawaja Izharul Hassan did not refute the involvement of MQM-London in the attack. “Provocative statements are coming from London. Anything is possible in such a situation,” he said.

On Saturday, MQM-P lawmaker Khawaja Izhar ul Hassan escaped an assassination attempt, but his security guard and a passer-by lost their lives in the attack.

Hassan had said the attackers were wearing helmets and putting on the police uniforms while talking to media yesterday.

One of the assailants was killed in an exchange of fire but other three managed to escape. A teenager, said to be 14-year-old, lost his life alongside Hasan’s security guard, a police constable.
