This news must be big for enthusiastic fans and admirers of the legendary Indian music composer. A.R.Rahman has joined the Indian contingent of goodwill ambassadors of India for the upcoming Rio Olympics.

According to the Indian Olympic Association, A.R.Rahman had accepted the offer from the IOA and also given a written confirmation to them.
“It’s absolutely an honour and my pleasure to be a goodwill ambassador of the Indian contingent scheduled for August 2016,” quoted a press release from the Indian Olympic Association.

This means that the famed Jai Ho hit-maker will join the likes of Bollywood superstar Salman Khan, specialist shooter Olympic gold medallist Bindra and Indian batting maestro Sachin Tendulkar have already accepted their appointments. IOA’s Secretary-General said the aim of appointing such big names was to ensure maximum reach of the Indian celebs to the local audience.

“As per our plan to reach out to maximum people in the country for Olympic Sports, we are happy that Mr. Rahman has come forward from the field of music to support our athletes and we already have Salman Khan from Bollywood, Abhinav Bindra from Olympic Sports and Sachin Tendulkar from Cricket. I am sure Mr. Rahman will inspire our sportspersons,” he said.

Salman Khan’s appointment had raised a hue and cry among Indian sports heroes who question the Dabangg actor’s appointment, instead of any sporting personality. It was then that the IOA had decided to appoint Bindra and Tendulkar as goodwill ambassadors.

Will Mr Rahman’s appointment also invite criticism from India’s sports legends?
