Aamir’s ‘Dangal’ not to be released in Pakistan, say distributors

Indian super star Aamir Khan’s upcoming movie ‘Dangal’ will not be released in Pakistan, despite the fact that Pakistani cinema owners have announced to start screening Bollywood movies.

The local cinemas had banned screening Indian movies for over two months subsequent to Uri attack in India and cross-border firing incidents.

Some 100 employees lost their jobs and the cinema owners suffered around Rs150million loss during this period. The cinemas had deserted and the suspension of Bollywood flicks had a totally bad impact on the local industry as well.

Now, Pakistani cinemas have resumed screening Indian movies which will revive cinema halls.

Consequently, Aamir’s sports-drama flick was also set to release in Pakistan, however the spokesman of the distributors of the film in a statement confirmed that ‘Dangal’ will not be released in the neighboring country “and any news reports to the contrary are false.”

‘Dangal’, directed by Nitish Tiwari, is based on a real story of adept wrestler Mahavir Singh Phogat and journey of his daughters Geeta Phogat and Babita Kumari in the world of wrestling. Aamir stars in the role of Phogat who teaches wrestling to his daughters. Sakshi Tanwar, Fatima Sana Shaikh and Sanya Malhotra are also featuring among others.

Dangal in Hindi means competition of wrestling. The film is set to release in India on December 23.
