Abid announces to quit power supply to 7 KP districts

PESHAWAR: State Minister for Water and Power, Abid Sher Ali has announced that power supply to 13 feeders of 7 different districts of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa (KP) province has been disconnected, due to theft and non-payment of dues – ARY News reports.

Addressing a press conference here on Tuesday, Abid Sher Ali told that electricity supply to Shangla, Bannu, Lakki Marwat, Peshawar, D I Khan, Karak and Tank was disconnected due to massive power thefts there and non-payment of electricity bills worth millions.

He elaborated that the Federation was handing over Peshawar Electric Supply Company (PESCO) to the KP Government, but it backed out. He alleged PTI ministers of safeguarding power pilferers and said that when WAPDA officials take an action against culprits, they are being tortured and victimized.

The State Minister added that disconnecting power supply to areas with highest rate of power pilferage, Government has saved 1.3 billion rupees.

He continued that from June this year, 2000 MWs will be induced in the national system, whereas some 260 MWs are being produced by a power project in Jamshoro, Sindh and 747 MWs of power is being generated by the Guddu power plant.

Speaking about the construction of Kala Bagh Dam, Abid said that unless the provinces are not agreed upon, the Federal government is not going to even talk about the project.

Moreover, he slammed the power pilferers saying that people have PHDs on their credits in electricity theft.
