Abida Parveen to perform role of playback singer for the first time

KARACHI: One of the foremost exponents of Sufi music, Abida Parveen has agreed to sing for the film, the very first time in her long career, ARY News reported.

Abida Parveen is a prominent icon of Pakistan’s music industry and is duly respected by all walks of life. However, despite an esteemed career, Abida has never rendered her voice for any filmi song. 

Though in some films her non-filmi songs are used for overlap over some particular situation like in Punjabi film Zill-e-Shaah her pre-recorded kaafi (a genre of sufi poetry) is included as overlap.

Abida has also sung in the Coke Studio, a most proclaimed music show of Pakistan, on which she sang three songs namely 'Ramooz-e-Ishq' 'Nigah-e-Darwaishaan' and 'Soz-e-Ishq'.

Now finally TV director Farooq Mengal has persuaded Abida Parveen, to render magic of her voice for Title Song of his new film ‘Raabta’. 

It is also first time ever that Abida is singing an Official Sound Track (OST) exclusively for a TV Drama or film. Though, some of her pre-recorded songs are included in drama as OST like ‘Yaar ko hum ne’ for Shehr-e-Zaat.

The services of 60-year old veteran singer have been praised and acknowledge in Pakistan. She has been awarded with President of Pakistan’s Award for Pride of Performance in 1982, Sitara-e-Imtiaz in 2005 and by Lifetime Achievement Award in 2012.
