Bad light saves the day – and the match – for Pakistan

Pakistani captain Misbah-ul-Haq won the toss and chose to bat first.

The green shirts declared at 523/8 in the first innings with Shoaib Malik being the top scorer with 245 runs while Asad Shafiq made 107 runs.

Mohammad Hafeez made 98 while Younis Khan became the highest test run scorer for Pakistan after he made 38 runs in the first innings.

Ben Stokes grabbed four wickets in the innings while James Anderson dismissed two batsmen. Stuart Broad and Mark Wood dismissed one batsmen each as well.

England in their first innings declared at 598/9 with captain Alastair Cook scoring 263 whereas Joe Root and Ian Bell made 85 and 63 runs for their team.

Wahab Riaz took three wickets for Pakistan whereas Imran Khan and Shoaib Malik grabbed two wickets. Rahat Ali and Zulfiqar Babar each had one wicket to their name.

Pakistan, trailing by 75 runs, were back in the pavilion after scoring 173 runs. Misbah-ul-Haq made 51 runs while Younis Khan made 45 runs for the team, giving England a target of 99 runs to win.

Adil Rashid dismissed five batsmen in the innings whereas James Anderson and Moeen Ali grabbed two wickets.

England scored 74/4 before bad light ended play. Joe Root remained not out at 33 while Jonny Bairstow scored 15 runs for the team.

Spinners Shoaib Malik and Zulfiqar each sent two batsmen back to pavilion.

The three match series is tied at 0-0. The second match of the series will be played at Dubai from 22nd to 26th October.
