Ahmed Rushdi's 31st death anniversary today

Today marks the 31st death anniversary of one of the most renowned and famous singers of Pakistan Ahmed Rushdi.

Ahmed Rushdi was born on 24th April, 1934 in Hyderabad, Deccan. He migrated to Karachi, Pakistan after the partition of the sub-continent. He started his career in Radio Pakistan. His famous song "Bandar Road se Kemari chali meri Ghora Gaari" brought him into the stage.

He started his artistic career in 1951 when he sang for the Indian film named Ibrat. He also holds the honor of singing the National Anthem for the first time with many other artists.

Ahmed Rushdi has sung more than 5000 songs for 500 films during his career.

In the Pakistan film industry, he sang for nearly every single actor but his voice suited Waheed Murad the most. Two songs from Arman film "Coco coreena" and "Akelay Na Jaana" are still popular by Pakistanis today.

He also won countless awards in the country including Lifetime Achievement Award, Best Singer of the Millenium, Nigar Award and Legend Award. 

Ahmed Rushdi passed away on 11th April, 1983 due to a heart problem. He was 48 years old. He was posthumous awarded the prestigious Sitara-e-Imtiaz.
