WASHINGTON: Pakistan’s ambassador to the United States Aizaz Chaudhry has said some hidden powers don’t want to see the Afghan peace process succeed.

Speaking to ARY News here, the ambassador said Pakistan has been making serious efforts to bring the Taliban to negotiating table.

Chaudhry insisted that the only solution to the Afghan conflict lay in meaningful dialogue.

Commenting on the fractured ties between Pakistan and the United Stattes, he said relations between the two countries were of immense importance.

He said Washington had to acknowledge the sacrifices rendered by Pakistan in the fight against terrorism. Besides, he added, Pakistan footed the bill for war on terror using its resources.

The ambassador said there were no talks taking place over the issue of resumption of the suspended security assistance to Pakistan.

He said Pakistan’s relations with the US should be based on mutual respect and that any kind of concerns and suspicions may be detrimental to the bilateral relations.

Aizaz said apprehensions and concerns in linkage between Washington and Islamabad would be counterproductive to the ongoing anti-terrorism operation and will significantly impact the Afghan peace and stability process.
