ISLAMABAD: An Accountability Court on Wednesday adjourned the hearing of Al-Azizia and Flagship corruption references against former prime minister Nawaz Sharif and members of his family till August 3.

Judge Muhammad Bashir put off the hearing after he was informed that the Islamabad High Court (IHC) has yet not decided the Sharif family’s plea for transfer of both the cases to another accountability court.

A day earlier, the two-judge bench comprising Justice Amir Farooq and Justice Miangul Hassan adjourned the hearing of the Sharif family’s plea for the transfer of the two reference till Aug 2.

The former premier’s lawyer Khwaja Haris will forward his arguments on next hearing.

The judges had earlier turned down a request by the appellants’ lawyer to grant a stay order, restraining the accountability judge from proceeding with the two pending cases against his clients till the matter at hand is decided.

The counsel argued that the judge, who convicted Sharif, his daughter and son-in-law, cannot hear the other two cases against them as their arguments in these cases are similar to the ones in the Avenfield case.
